Hynes hopes to add to Inverness start next term

Delighted defender Darren Hynes has targeted more first-team appearances after signing on at Cappielow for the 2018/19 campaign.

The 19-year-old former Aberdeen youth made his senior bow in the final game of last season, picking up the sponsors’ man of the match for his display against Inverness Caledonian Thistle.

And after whetting his appetite with 90 minutes against the Highlanders, right-back Hynes is hungry for more top-team action in Ton colours next term.

Speaking to media officer Jonathan Mitchell, he said: “Obviously, I was ultimately disappointed with the result and performance against Inverness. We never really played well at all and they were the better team.

“But I was delighted to make my debut, and for it to be from the start made it that bit more special. I’d been on the bench a few times this season and had been desperate to get on the park.

“So I was glad I finally got that opportunity in the final game of the season. I knew on the Friday I was in the matchday squad with there being a few injuries.

“The team was named about quarter to two, and that’s when I found out I was starting, so I was a bit nervous then and again sitting in the changing room and then lining up in the tunnel.

“I never realised how much more physically demanding the first-team games are and how they are played at a much higher pace.

“After the first five to 10 minutes, I felt I settled into the game, and the players were all reassuring me, encouraging me to stay relaxed and keep calm. That helped a lot.

“It was nice to be named man of the match as well. I wasn’t really expecting it, to be honest. I thought I played not too bad, but I didn’t think I was outstanding or as good as I can be, but I was obviously delighted.

“I’m also delighted to have signed on for another year and I’ll go away now, keep myself fit in the off-season and be ready to go and hopefully make a few more appearances next season and push for a starting place.”
