Gaston: I joined Ton just hoping for five starts

Goalkeeper Derek Gaston admitted that he had far surpassed his own expectations by making his 200th appearance for Morton on Saturday.

Upon joining from Albion Rovers in 2012, Gaston’s initial ambition was to start five first-team matches to prove he could cut it as a full-time footballer after being told he had been brought to play second fiddle to Alan Combe.

But keeper Gats took his chance with both hands, establishing himself as No.1 and going on to become a double-centurion in the win over Brechin at the weekend, an achievement from which he draws a great deal of pride.

The 30-year-old also talks about the performance against the Glebe Park outfit, the league table, John Baird bagging a brace, as well as keeping a cleansheet in his landmark appearance.
