Ben Armour signs contract extension

We are pleased to announce that striker Ben Armour has today signed a contract extension that will keep him with the club until 10 June 2018.

Hitman Ben, one of seven youth development graduates involved in Saturday’s matchday squad at St Mirren, penned his first professional deal in the summer, tying him to the Ton until 1 January 2018.

Manager Jim Duffy also challenged the 19-year-old to push on and develop in order to earn a new contract until the end of the campaign.

And the Cappielow gaffer has been sufficiently impressed with the hard work and progress displayed by Armour, who has made four substitute appearances this term, to table terms earlier than expected.

Duffy told gmfc.net: “I’m delighted for Ben. We wanted to do it as early as we felt was right, because he’s done his part. We asked Ben to go away in the summer, work hard, come back in good shape and get ready for the challenge.

“He certainly did do that. He came back in great shape, really fit and determined, and with a real desire to impress, and that was instrumental to us offering him that extension of the contract.

“It’s the same with all the young boys. It’s up to all of them to try and earn those contracts. They do that by attitiude and performance, and so far Ben has done both.

“He’s now a regular part of the first-team squad and he’s just got to try and move to that next level. If he can do that, who knows where that can take him. Hopefully he can continue to improve and do well.”
