Duffy expects Bob to score a barrowload
Bob McHugh netted his fifth goal of the season at Dundee United on Saturday to take him to the top of the club’s scoring charts – and manager Jim Duffy expects the hitman to go on and bag a barrowload this term.
The 26-year-old drew Morton level at Tannadice, showing predatory instincts to turn home Ricki Lamie’s headed knockdown from a Ross Forbes free-kick after coming off the bench.
Cappielow gaffer Duffy elected to start with Jai Quitongo up top, explaining that he wanted to utilise the 20-year-old’s pace, but believes McHugh will tally up a terrific number of goals for the Ton this term.
He said: “Bob as we know is that penalty box type of player. Tactically we felt that we’d be on the counter-attack going up to Dundee United.
“So we wanted the pace of Jai [Quitongo] to maybe exploit that and at times we did that very well, but we brought Bob to the club because we know he can score goals.
“It was a typical Bob McHugh goal. [He] was the first to react in about the penalty box, similar to Scott McDonald, and I’m sure Bob will score a terrific amount of goals for us over the course of the season.”
