Tidser signs two-year contract extension

We are delighted to announce that Michael Tidser has today signed a two-year contract extension to commit himself to the club until 10 June 2019.

The 27-year-old playmaker first signed for the Ton as a teenager back in January 2010 and spent three-and-a-half successful seasons at Cappielow.

He earned a £50,000 transfer to English outfit Rotherham United off the back of the final campaign, scoring 13 goals and registering 17 assists as the Ton challenged for the First Division title.

Tidser made an emotional return to Greenock in January 2015 following his Rotherham departure, penning a two-and-half year deal that expired this summer.

Both the midfielder and manager Jim Duffy were keen to extend his stay and recently agreed a new deal, which was penned earlier this afternoon.

Speaking exclusively to gmfc.net today, the Ton boss said: “I’m absolutely thrilled that Michael has agreed to sign on for the next two years.

“He’s another very creative player, and when he’s at the top of his game he’s among the best midfielders in the league, so it’s great he’s made the decision to stay with us for another two seasons.

“I’m sure he would have had a number of other clubs interested; he’s a very talented player and talented players always attract attention from other clubs.

“But he was very happy to sign on and from that aspect of things, we were delighted that he made that commitment to stay with us.”

It has been a productive close season with Jamie McGowan, Ben Armour, Ruaridh Langan, Andy Murdoch, Ricki Lamie, Bob McHugh, Gary Harkins, and now Tidser all agreeing deals.

Duffy has been pleased with the business thus far and added: “Obviously we had a decent season and that helps –  it helps attract players when they see that the club is moving in the right direction.

“We have a group of players who work well together and gel well, and that togetherness is part of the attraction for players who have previously been at the club, like Michael and like Andy Murdoch.

“They know the players; they know the club; they know myself and Hagi [assistant manager Craig McPherson] and the way we work. That alongside the way we have improved as a club on and off the pitch always helps.

“Nevertheless, we have to keep trying to move forward – that’s the next test for the players, and having guys like Michael on board will help us in our efforts to achieve that.”
