Bob McHugh joins Morton on two-year deal
Morton are delighted to announce the signing of former Falkirk striker Bob McHugh on a two-year contract until 10 June 2019.
The 25-year-old put pen to paper on a 24-month deal at Cappielow this morning to become manager Jim Duffy’s first new recruit of the close season.
Frontman McHugh began his career with Motherwell and spent eight seasons at Fir Park, during which he enjoyed loan stints with Queen of the South and Airdrie, and spent the last two campaigns with the Bairns.
Ton boss Jim Duffy told gmfc.net: “Robert is a player who we’ve always thought is very talented. Having played in a successful side in the Championship the last few years, he knows the expectations and can deal with them.
“Falkirk are always expected to be challenging at the top end of the league, so he’s been with a club that has given him that experience, and he’s still at a good age.
“He’s 25 and has plenty of ambition and plenty of desire and enthusiasm. He was also very keen to join us and that’s always important.
“I know he had another couple of clubs interested in him, which didn’t surprise me because players who know their way around the penalty box are always going to be in demand, and he’s certainly one of those players.
“He’s got good all-round ability in the final third, and as I’ve said it’s an area where we had to strengthen, there’s no doubt about it.
“We’ve done that with Robert [Thomson], and with the other Robert [McHugh] coming in and Jai [Quitongo] now back fully fit, it gives us really good, healthy competition at the top end of the pitch.
“Everybody has got to be on their toes now. Everybody has competition with top players wanting the jersey and someone is going to have to miss out at times. But I’d rather have that than be struggling to see who we can play.
“It was something last year that we found difficult to resolve so I felt that, when the opportunity came up this year to do it as early as we possibly could, that was important.”
