Tidser: This quarter-final tie is far from over

Midfielder Michael Tidser insists the Premiership promotion play-off quarter-final is far from over as Morton prepare to head to Tannadice tonight for the second leg.

The Ton lost 2-1 to Dundee United in Tuesday’s home tie after Ray McKinnon’s men came back from behind at half-time to take a one-goal lead into the return.

Despite travelling to the City of Discovery trailing, Tidser says the Ton head north full of belief and intent of giving it everything they’ve got to keep their promotion dream alive.

He told gmfc.net: “We were disappointed with the first leg result. I felt first half we were comfortable. We dominated it and created a couple of chances. We scored, hit the bar, had another couple of wee half chances.

“Our gameplan counteracted them, picked up second balls, but in the second half they changed their system, went two up top, and if truth be told, we seemed a wee bit disjointed at times.

“Take your hat off to them, they did well and got back in the game and we just didn’t pick up from the second half. When the goal went in it gave us a shake and we just didn’t do ourselves justice as a group in the second half.

“But, listen, the tie’s not over as far as I’m concerned, and we emphasised that after the game on Tuesday. One goal and we’re back in the game.

“Away goals don’t count, so we’ll go up there and give it our best shot and see where it takes us. Anything can happen in football; everything can change in a split second.

“We saw on Tuesday: it was the classic game of two halves. We dominated the first half and the second half they dominated and got two goals.

“But as I said, it’s certainly not done, far from it. We’ll go there with a gameplan and hopefully we can go up to Tannadice and get the right result.

“I said to the lads in the dressing room after the game on Tuesday that sometimes going up there with no pressure on us means we have a go with a freedom.”
