Morton are delighted to announce that Ricki Lamie has this afternoon signed a one-year contract extension to tie him to the club until 10 June 2018.

The 23-year-old defender is one of the club’s longest-serving players having joined in the summer of 2014 shortly after Jim Duffy’s appointment as manager.

Now heading into his fourth season at Cappielow, Lamie is approaching a century of Ton appearances after racking up 85 starts and 14 sub outings in the last three years.

The centre-half, who is also at home at left-back, cemented himself as a regular in the first XI last term, making 33 starts and four sub appearances, as well as scoring his first goal for the club in a dramatic 1-1 draw at St Mirren.

Duffy believes Lamie has made significant strides in his time with the Ton and is thrilled to welcome him back for another Cappielow campaign.

He told gmfc.net: “I’m absolutely delighted that Ricki has committed his future to the club. I think he’s a player who came on leaps and bound last year, not only at centre-back but at full-back as well.

“Over the last couple of years I think he’s a player who has made rapid improvement and I think he’s grown into a very accomplished defender now.

“He was a player I always though had potential. It just took him a little while to believe in himself first and foremost, and once he started to belief in himself, he improved significantly.

“He’s still got wee bits to go, particularly in the attacking sense. He’s a strong powerful boy and I think he can still add a few goals to his tally.

“But defensively is the most important thing and, as I mentioned earlier, I think he has improved season upon season, and as a footballer that’s all you can ask.”
